Thanks to Tony Minx from The Hillmans for this report from last week’s filming of Dick Taylor in Ventnor. Ed
A French Production Company called “Flying Fish” are filming a sponsored documentary involving a group of musicians including our own Dick Taylor.
A special gig was arranged at The Boathouse Bar last Thursday 9th January for the Crew to film Dick in action with his Island band, The Hillmans.
Great support from fans
The Boathouse Bar was packed with fans from all over the Island. The music began, the dance floor was crowded with dancers but where were Flying Fish?
The Crew suddenly appeared, seven or eight of them all armed with different types of camera and recording devices. They got amongst the band filming from all angles, even behind the microphones. The band were unflappable and carried on as normal! The Crew also took lots of images of the dancers and the audience.
In love with Ventnor
Jean Francois said that the Crew absolutely loved Ventnor and were overwhelmed by the response and welcome that they were given. One of the cameramen was heard to say “Nothing like this would ever happen in a small seaside town in France – especially in the winter!”
The film will be shown on French Internet TV and on Youtube but in the meantime you can see some of the action on southwighttv.com.
Trip to St Catherine’s
Earlier in the day the Crew filmed Dick on the ferry from the Mainland and at St Catherine’s School where they filmed some of the children who, taught by Dick, had formed a band of their own.
Everyone at St Catherine’s were thoroughly charmed by our visitors from France – some of the female pupils and staff are still recovering!
This was a unique event and we would like to thank the management and staff of The Spyglass for helping to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
SouthWightTV were on hand filming the event. See their Website for footage from the night.
