At a time when Isle of Wight Foodbank is helping feed over 100 families a week, it’s not surprising to hear that Islanders are seeking help from the council to.
Since the beginning of the financial year the Isle of Wight council have had 262 applications from Islanders for assistance through Discretionary Housing Payments.
The Isle of Wight council had £226,320 allocated to them by the Government and as of today’s date, the council has just over half the allocation remaining, £122,773.83
60 applications rejected
A total of 337 applications have been approved (this includes some applications received prior to April 2013, but were to take effect from 1st April) and 60 applications have been rejected.
Earlier in the summer, the Isle of Wight council put out a call for the views of Islanders on their discretionary housing payment policy.
