The story broke yesterday that Surrey and the West Midlands Police have invited private security companies to bid to take over some of their policing functions.
The BBC report the private security firms could take over police roles “responding to and investigating incidents, supporting victims and witnesses, managing high-risk individuals and patrolling neighbourhoods.”
Possibly all legally delegatable services
The Guardian, who broke the story, are reporting they had seen a 26-page “commercial in confidence” contract note that said the scope could be wider, to include all services that “can be legally delegated to the private sector” were potentially up for contract.
It’s understood that the contract would be worth £1.5bn over seven years but could rise to £3.5bn if other police forces were included.

What do you see as the advantages and the disadvantages?
