At time of writing this, the sky outside our window is covered in cloud, but like many others, we’ll be hoping that clears before tonight’s arrival of the supermoon.
A supermoon is a new or full moon that is within 90 per cent of its closest approach to earth
Full Buck or Hay Moon
According to Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Full Buck Moon – also known as Full Hay Moon – relates to the velvety antlers of young male deer (bucks) being in full growth.
The sight of their magnificent racks against the summer sky led to the name, “Full Buck Moon.”
The term “Full Hay Moon” comes from high summer being the time to cut and cure hay to put away for winter feed.
