Just one week into the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Christmas anti-drink driving campaign, the Isle of Wight Roads Policing unit tweeted of an arrest.
A man in his 40s was arrested at 8am this morning (Wednesday) for being twice the drink drive limit, from drinking that took place the night before.
The unit told OnTheWight the driver will be “getting a minimum 12 month ban” and appearing at Isle of Wight Magistrates court later this month.
It’s not worth the risk
The Roads Policing Unit have been out in St Thomas’ Square today, raising awareness of the risks of drink and drug driving.
On display was the car that ten year old Evey Staley tragically lost her life in due to the actions of a drink driver.
Evey’s parents, who were themselves seriously injured in the collision, have gone on to campaign against drink driving through the year-round ‘Isle Drive Safe’ campaign.
Sergeant Rob Heard says,
“Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police remain dedicated to patrolling our roads to reduce the number of people who are killed or injured as a result of drink and drug driving.
“To anyone driving this December, please stop and consider the consequences of a loved one being told the devastating news that your reckless actions have caused the trauma and tragedy of a fatal collision.”
