A VB reader got in touch with us this morning with news of possible changes to the WightLink early morning crossings.
He’d heard that that 6.10am and 8.15pm FastCat crossings from Ryde to Portsmouth were due to be cancelled.
We got in touch with WightLink, who confirm that both those crossings were due to be axed from January, as well as some others.
Here’s what they said,
The current economic climate is impacting on us and we have had to take urgent action to reduce our ongoing costs wherever possible.
A thorough review of our timetable on the Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head route has been undertaken to ensure we continue to operate a viable 24/7 operation; maintaining early morning and late night sailings whilst crucially controlling our operating costs.
The main change to the sailing schedules – from 10 January 2011 – is the withdrawal of the 0540 from Portsmouth Harbour and the 0610 from Ryde Pier Head Monday-Friday and the 1945 from Portsmouth and 2015 from Ryde Pier Head Monday-Thursdays.
During the main part of the day when operating an hourly service the sailings will operate at 15 minutes past the hour from Portsmouth Harbour and at 47 minutes from Ryde Pier Head.
We are aware that the change to our sailing times many not suit all of our passengers; unfortunately these changes are essential to ensure the future of the Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head route whilst minimising the impact for the majority of our passengers.
Wightlink would like to apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.
