East Wight Primary rallies community to select challenger to Conservative candidate

East Wight Primary has unveiled their plan to unify efforts in the upcoming General Election.

The group say they continue to seek broad support to determine the best progressive candidate to challenge the Conservative Party.

Zoom call mobilises support
East Wight Primary believes that collective decision-making will yield a result that local residents can trust.

The exact date is still to be confirmed, but to facilitate this, the group will hold an online vote for its supporters in mid-June.

Opportunity to scrutinise candidates
Before the vote, there will be ample opportunities to assess the three candidates vying for support. East Wight Primary will soon be launching a new website where supporters can register to vote.

The group has sent written questions to the Labour, Lib Dem, and Green candidates and requested answers by the end of this week.

Publishing candidate responses
East Wight Primary will publish the candidates’ responses on various topics, including ferries, dentists, education, and sewage.

These will be released daily from the end of this week until the voting period begins.

Hustings
Several hustings are also being organised across East Wight. These events will allow residents to see the candidates in action and make informed decisions.

Details of all hustings will be published on the EWP website to ensure everyone has the chance to participate.

Campaigning already underway
Campaigning has already begun, and East Wight Primary encourages residents to support their preferred candidates now.

The group’s vote on the best tactical choice will consider the effectiveness and size of the current campaigns.

East Wight Primary emphasises the importance of backing one of the progressive campaigns while awaiting their vote.

The General Election is planned for Thursday 4th July 2024.
