A planning application for 36 “zero-carbon holiday lodges”, an event barn, a visitor reception building with cafe/restaurant, a two-bedroom apartment, a workshop and a natural swimming pond at Gurnard Pines Country Club has been submitted to the Isle of Wight council.
Dubbed “Gurnard Off Grid Breaks”, the plans reveal that the “ZED Eco Village” will be the first of a new generation of net-zero holiday destinations in the UK.
What’s on offer
Each net zero home has its own dedicated electric car recharging bay and two outdoor sheltered decks for dining and relaxation.
An EV micro-car pool is also being developed using the same exchangeable LTO batteries powering the cabins.
Different roof pitches will be developed to ensure that the building’s integrated renewable solar harvesting is optimised where possible.
Natural swimming pond
All homes look towards central wildflower meadow with a reed-bounded natural swimming pond and boardwalk leading to a sunbathing island.
Communal wingboard pool
There’ll also be a communal wingboard pool with a rescue rib / trailer and a communal electric four-wheel drive is proposed to tow the boards to the Gurnard communal slipway.
Discreet location
The plans explain that this new site will be screened by mature trees and woodland and be hidden from public roads and the existing Gurnard Pines holiday resort.
