Police are appealing for information after a 83-year-old man fell victim to a distraction burglar.
The man was sat outside his home in Southfield Gardens, Ryde when he was approached by a woman who asked to use a toilet.
He let her in and remained outside, but discovered after she had gone that £272 in cash had been taken from inside the house.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 10 at around 11.00 to 11.30am
Description of subject
The suspect is described as a white woman, aged about 50 to 60 years, thin build and wearing trousers.
Detective Constable Julia Steele said, “Distraction burglaries are rare in these areas and we are reminding local residents to ensure their properties are left secure at all times, and to remember that you have the right to refuse entry to any uninvited visitors. Always ask for identification, and if you are still unsure you can call the police.”
