It appears that elderly or vulnerable residents on the Isle of Wight are still being targeted by individuals pushing to carry out work in return for cash.
“Rude, forceful and intimidating”
An OnTheWight reader has been in touch about an incident that took place yesterday. Our reader told us,
Yesterday afternoon my mother was approached by a white male who tried to pressurise her into having her driveway cleaned. The man was incredibly rude, forceful and intimidating. She was on her own at the time and it was a traumatic experience for her.
Thankfully, myself and family returned home and he left; leaving my mother incredibly shaken.
Police appeals
Readers may remember the police appeal at the end of last month asking for residents to come forward if they feel they’ve been the victim of conmen. It followed reports of rogue traders targeting elderly residents in Sandown.
Similar incident in Yarmouth
The incident described above by our reader was witnessed by an off-duty Police Officer, who reported it to her station in Yarmouth.
Our reader said,
She mentioned they had been doing the same thing there (targeting quiet cul de sacs with elderly residents) but had never been able to get a car registration for these people – that day we managed to get it and I passed this information onto the police.
Our reader confirmed that the incident has now been logged with police who are treating it as a suspicious incident.
