Ventnor continued their preparations for the new season with a narrow three run win over Old Tauntonians & Romsey in Saturday’s friendly at Steephill.
58 by the openers
The home team batted first on winning the toss and were given a 58 run start by openers Billy Clarke (36) and Ollie Mills (23).
Ben Woodhouse contributed 24 in the middle order before skipper Ian Hilsum (59 not out) and Neil Westhorpe (38) added 80 for the sixth wicket to lead their side to 222-6 from 45 overs.
Ventnor debut for Wilson
Elliot Wilson, on his Ventnor debut, took a wicket with his very first ball and generated a lively pace throughout a nine over spell in which he took 4-37 as the visitors slipped to 122-6.
Rob Snell also impressed with 3-25 before Charlie King hit a fine, unbeaten 71 as OT’s came within a whisker of overhauling their target, closing on 219-8.
Whyte wins it for Ventnor
Ventnor’s second team secured a three wicket win over Sway at Steephill on Sunday.
Chasing the visitors total of 209-8, (Charlie Calloway 3-40), Ventnor’s response was led by new recruit George Hatt with 36, Gary Cooper (23) young Jadon Buckeridge (25) and Rob Snell (23) before Mark Whyte’s match winning knock of 43 not out saw his side home with three overs remaining.
