Emergency Services funday helped raise awareness

As we mentioned at the weekend, emergency services gathered at Tesco in Ryde for a funday on Saturday. It marked the start of Air Ambulance Week and was a great opportunity for these groups to raise awareness of their work with the public. Thanks to Dean for sharing this report and photos from the day. Ed

The Isle of Wight Search and Rescue team were invited by the Air Ambulance to be part of their emergency services fun day.

Other agencies in attendance included the Isle of Wight Fire Service and St Johns Ambulance.

WightSAR demonstrated to the public the skills and equipment which would be used for a technical causality evacuation as well as talking about their role and the techniques used in searches for vulnerable missing persons.

Emergency call for air ambulance
It was intended that Helimed 56 (Helicopter) would be based at Tesco for the duration of the day, however just after midday it was for required for operational tasking. We understand it was a busy afternoon and they unfortunately unable to return.

Fortunately WightSAR and the Fire Brigade were not deployed to anything so were able to stay for the duration and enjoyed the music courtesy of the Vectis Drum of Corps.

Special thanks to the staff of Tesco Extra many of whom were in Doctor and Nurse fancy dress. A great time was has by all.
