Footpath BB21 forms part of the route linking Bembridge Windmill and Brading. For much of its course it follows the historic harbour wall of Brading Haven and offers wonderful views across the RSPB’s Brading Marshes Reserve.
However, it is probably best remembered by many as a quagmire passable during the winter months by only the most intrepid.
Path relaid and widened
Now, thanks to the dedicated input of volunteers from the IW Ramblers, Bembridge Green Town and Bembridge Parish Lengthsmen and a skilled team of contractors the most treacherous 300m stretch of the path has been re-laid and widened.
Thanks also go to the landowners Laurence Taylor and the Peter and Alice Summerhayes without whose support the project could not have been completed in such a timely manner.
Centurions Copse to Quay Lane
Works to improve the stretch of the footpath from Centurions Copse to Quay Lane, Brading begin in December and are scheduled to conclude in September 2017 completing the repair of a 4km stretch of one of the Island’s most important walking routes.
Much needed clearance of vegetation was undertaken by Aaron Rogers Grounds Maintenance. The pathway was relayed by Reynolds and Read Ltd and Peter Faithfull constructed and installed a new gate.
