West Wight Sports Centre looks set for an action packed summer – with a series of exciting endurance events planned which build on the succesful West Wight Triathlon which is now in it’s 11th year.
The summer gets underway on May 26th with the West Wight Sprint Tri – a 300 metre pool swim, 16km cycle followed by a 4km run.
The next day sees the Needles Half Marathon – organised by West Wight Road runners when up to 300 runners are expected.
West Wight Quadrathlon
On June 10th the new West Wight Quadrathlon takes place – this is a 600 metre pool swim, 12miles on a mountain bike, 6 nmile kayak round the Needles, followed up by a 6km run.
This challenging and exciting event is being sponsored by Island Adventure Activities who are also providing kayaks for loan on the day.
Wild West Solent Swim
July 15th sees the 2nd Wild West Solent Swim – this is a fund raiser for the charity that runs West Wight Sports Centre and 70 people have signed up to take part.
Organisers are now looking for people to help with escorting the swimmers across in kayaks and safety boats.
More info can be found at www.solentswim.co.uk . The day is set to be a quite a spectacle with a flotilla of more than 100 swimmers and kayakers leaving Hurst Castle at 7.30.
It will be a fitting tribute to the Olympics with the torch passing through the West Wight on the day before.
Teen Triathlon
On July 28th the first Teen Triathlon takes place – with an opportunity for youngsters to take part either as an individual or in a team of two or three – before the final endurance event of the summer on September 30th, the West Wight Triathlon.
