The Environment Agency have issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.
The alert, which was issued at 9.17am on Sunday 18th February reads:
The water level in the Eastern Yar is high and rising. In the last 24 hours 30mm of rain has fallen at Wroxall.
This is in addition to the prolonged wet weather during February. From around 17:00 today (18/02/2024), water will be ponded on low lying land adjacent to the river throughout the river valley and on roads, cycle tracks and footpaths.
At Langbridge and Alverstone Road Bridge, the river will be close to the top of the riverbank. Flooding of Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road, Sandown, is likely overnight and into Monday (19/02/2024).
Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high. Garden flooding is possible in St Nicholas Close. No further rain is forecast.
Bembridge sluice is operating normally. We continue to monitor and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Property flooding is not expected.
