Explore the creative oasis of Carol Ann and Guy Eades’ Garden Studio: Textiles, sculptures and natural inks

Last updated:

Isle of Wight artists, Carol Ann and Guy Eades, are opening their Garden Studio in Sandown to the public over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Find time if you can to visit their Studio in Sandown near the beach over the long holiday weekend.

It is a small green oasis amongst the hectic holiday activity around where you can explore and see artworks in the beautiful space they have created.

A fusion of textiles and sculptures
Carol Ann will be showing her recent textiles, paper collages and wall relief sculptures, inspired by her love of Japanese indigo dye and stitching techniques, including sashiko and shibori, together with rust printing inspired by the coastline.

In particular, she will be displaying new works evolved from the deconstruction of ‘Zukin’ – Japanese firefighters’ hoods from the C19th – as contemporary artworks.

Guy Eades’ inspired artworks
Guy will be showing works on paper inspired by his time recently as resident artist at Ventnor Botanic Garden.

He has been painting onto paper with natural inks he has made from oak, walnut and eucalyptus.

He has also been drawing on paper with natural earth materials – clay, sand and chalk – collected on both the Isle of Wight and further afield.

An invitation to connect
Carol Ann and Guy have regularly participated in the Island-wide Open Studio annual event.

This, therefore, is a special opportunity to visit and meet the artists in person in the studio environment and to see and learn more about the techniques that go into their making, ask questions of the artists, and maybe find an artwork that you would like to live with and make part of your home.
