Fake Southern Vectis promotion claims unlimited travel for £2; passengers warned

A social media post promising unlimited Isle of Wight bus travel for £2 has been exposed as a scam.

The fraudulent offer claims that Southern Vectis is providing 500 ‘Smart Pass’ cards, allowing three months of unlimited travel for a minimal fee.

Fake promotion circulating online
The post, shared widely online, urges people to act quickly as the offer is supposedly valid for only seven days.

It includes a link to an external website, which is not affiliated with Southern Vectis or any official transport provider.

Southern Vectis confirms the offer is false
Southern Vectis has confirmed that this promotion is fake and is not part of any genuine scheme.

The company advises passengers to only trust information shared on its official website and social media channels.

A spokesperson for Southern Vectis has stated that any genuine discounts or promotions will always be advertised through their official platforms.

Be cautious of unrealistic offers
Currently, Southern Vectis offers a 30-day Freedom pass for £115, which equates to approximately £3.83 per day for unlimited travel.

The claim that three months of travel is available for just £2 does not align with the company’s official pricing.

How to stay safe online
Residents should be cautious of promotions that seem too good to be true, particularly those requiring online payments or personal details.

Anyone who has clicked on the scam link or entered payment details should check their bank statements and report the incident to their bank immediately.

The Isle of Wight Council also advises reporting suspicious online activity to Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud and cybercrime reporting centre.
