It’s been over two weeks since a holidaymaker from Wales went missing from a hotel in Sandown.
The last confirmed sighting of Michael Davies shows him walking along Avenue Road in Sandown at 43 minutes past midnight on the morning of Wednesday, 27th May 2015.
On Wednesday this week (10th June) members of the public carried out a search in the Sandown area.
“Whole family remains in limbo”
In a statement issued through Hampshire Constabulary, the family of Michael Davies said,
“We would like to say thank you very much to everyone who helped with the search for Mike in Sandown on Wednesday evening.
“We only wish we could be over there to help them. It is difficult for us to come back over to the Isle of Wight from Wales at the moment.
“The whole family remains in limbo right now. Everyday is a struggle as we feel unable to face things and move on.
“Any factual information about Mike is gratefully received. Please contact the police and help us find Mike.”
Police continue investigations
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman added:
“We always appreciate genuine offers of support from members of the public to help find missing people.
“Police are grateful to all those involved in Wednesday’s search for following the advice of specialist search officers who attended the scene in Sandown.
“A team of detectives and specialist officers with local knowledge continue to work to identify potential lines of enquiry since Mr Davies went missing from a hotel in Sandown on the evening of Tuesday, May 26, 2015.
“The last confirmed sighting on CCTV shows Michael walking along Avenue Road in Sandown away from the seafront outside the Southern Co-operative store at 43 minutes past midnight on the morning of Wednesday, May 27, 2015.
“Numerous and extensive land and water searches involving specialist officers, dogs, and rescue volunteers have taken place in the areas surrounding Avenue Road since May 27. Aerial searches and leaflet drops have been carried out in Sandown.
“Michael, known as Mike to his family, is described as white with cropped white hair.
“He was last seen wearing jeans, a horizontal striped blue and white T-shirt, a blue zip-up top with the number ’95’ on the front, and a cream coloured baseball cap.
“Further enquiries established that Mr Davies was carrying a torch with him on the evening of his disappearance.
“There remains no evidence at this time to suggest Mr Davies has been the victim of a crime.
“A key line of enquiry continues to be a specific appeal for members of the public on the island to check their own gardens, sheds, outbuildings or caravans. It is possible Mike Davies sought refuge in the local area where he may have become confused, unwell and unable to call for help.
“There is concern that Mike may not have access to blood pressure medication that he needs.
“Michael or anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Isle of Wight Investigation team at Newport police station by phoning on 101. Mini-com users can phone 18001 101. In an emergency, please call 999.”
