We were unable to attend the Orbit-Offsite event at the Old Battery last Friday, so thanks to Georgia from Quay Arts for sending through this report of the day. Fantastic to see such good numbers there. Ed
We certainly packed out the West Wight on Friday with Orbit-Offsite, the total count was well over near to 1000!
Most of those who attended came with their family – some three generations worth and stayed for the whole event, making water rockets, balloon rockets, decorating lanterns and listening to some key speakers from the space industry.
Former workers share experiences
Some of the past workers also attended and it was touching to see their knowledge and memories of the space industry at West High Down passed down to their children and grandchildren.
A very important part of the Island’s heritage – which could have so easily have been forgotten, was re-examined and revived.
Exhibition at West Gallery
Artist Katayoun Dowlatshahi initially created a body of photographic artworks for exhibition at The West Gallery, Quay Arts and then went on to organise the live event at West High Down.
The art exhibition ‘Orbit’ by Katayoun is still on in the gallery until Saturday 3rd December.
