The Future Frontiers Fund is offering financial support to help develop new ideas, technologies, products and services that address climate change, protect the environment and contribute towards a net zero future.
The funding aims to assist individuals and businesses in advancing their early-stage concepts to a stage where they can be validated as a ‘proof of concept’.
Focus areas for innovation
Successful applicants will be able to explore key areas such as technical viability, including modelling and prototype development.
They can also assess market needs, potential end-user uptake, and establish a viable business model.
Grants and support available
Each project can receive a grant of approximately £10,000 for a duration of up to six months.
In addition to financial support, successful applicants will benefit from mentoring provided by Cranfield University, which includes up to four days of guidance.
Who can apply?
The fund is open to UK-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups and spinouts.
Sole traders, individual entrepreneurs, academics and students with early-stage ideas (Technology Readiness Level 1-3) from research institutions and the Further Education/Higher Education sector are also eligible to apply.
Eligible expenses
Grants can be used to cover the cost of equipment, consumables, third-party services and travel and subsistence expenses.
Application deadline
Applications are currently open, with a deadline set for 5.30pm on Monday 3rd March 2025.
Although the application website refers to Bedfordshire, the fund is available to individuals and companies based anywhere in the UK.
