A man has been jailed for an aggravated burglary in Ryde.
At around 6.15pm on Saturday 13th August this year, police were called to an incident in Melville Street in Ryde, where 59-year-old Andrew Saurin was observed standing in the street with a knife whilst shouting threats towards someone in a nearby flat.
Smashed glass door to gain access
During the incident, Saurin smashed a glass door to gain access to the address.
Police attended and arrested Saurin whilst he continued to make threats. He was subsequently charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a knife in a public place.
Admitted offences
Saurin, of Melville Street in Ryde, admitted both offences when he appeared at Newport Crown Court on 26th September.
Appearing at the same court on Tuesday 29th November, he was jailed for five years and six months.

Following the sentencing, DC Jess Hughes said,
“We simply do not tolerate any form of violence in our communities, and take a particularly robust stance against those who carry knives.
