Organisers of the Randonee cycling race, which takes place each year and sees around two thousand cyclists tour up to 100km across the Island, are in discussions with the Isle of Wight council after it was discovered the Cowes floating bridge may not be back in service in time.
Essential maintenance
The Floating Bridge was taken out of service for essential maintenance on 22nd April, but was only expected to be about of service for about a week.
The Isle of Wight council then advised it would continue to be out in service until at least the 2nd May. This has now extended to 5th May.
The 2014 Randonee
The Randonee takes place on Sunday 4th May. Organisers of the event have appealed to drivers to be patient and considerate to cyclists on the day.
In 2013, the direction of the Randonee was reversed to a clockwise direction. The purpose of the change was to avoid congestion with hundreds of participants coming off the car ferry.
