The Environment Agency have advised that the Flood Alert for the Eastern Yar is still in place.
Issued at 12.11pm, the warning reads:
Water levels in the Eastern Yar are slowly falling. There has been no rainfall since Monday morning (20/11/2023). This will allow the river to continue recovering.
Given the exceptional total of rainfall (380mm) in the last 30 days, the rate of recovery will be very slow. At Alverstone, the level is falling at around 0.7cm per hour.
At Sandown, the level is falling by approximately 0.3cm per hour. No further rainfall is currently expected. As a result, no further impacts are expected.
This Flood Alert will remain in force until the river level measured at Sandown has fallen to 1.07mAOD. We will continue to monitor the forecast.
