The Environment Agency have issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar.
Issued at 10.40am this morning (Wednesday), the alert reads:
The Eastern Yar is higher than normal, but has reduced over the last 24 hours. Throughout today (Wednesday 6/12/2023), water will remain ponded throughout the Yar Valley, with some minor road flooding affecting Golf Links and Moreton Common Road, Sandown.
The rest of Wednesday will remain fairly dry, but from the early hours of Thursday morning (7/12/2023) further heavy rain is forecast, with 20-30mm expected.
Given the weather outlook, the river will rise throughout the course of Thursday, and is likely to cause similar impacts (widespread flooding of footpaths, tracks, roads and gardens) to those experienced last weekend (4/12/2023).
Unsettled conditions will continue throughout Friday and into Saturday. Bembridge sluice is operating normally. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding, can operate over the next few days.
