A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Eastern Yar.
Flooding is possible for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge. Low lying land and roads will be affected first. Be prepared.
About 15 millimetres of rainfall has fallen in the last six hours.
River levels rising
River levels in the Eastern Yar are responding to the rainfall. River levels in the upper catchment are still rising, and are likely to peak in the next couple of hours.
River levels at Alverstone will continue to rise, and are likely to peak late morning or early afternoon. Impacts are likely to be seen in the upper reaches of the Eastern Yar at Arreton, Langbridge and Alverstone.
Update 1: Monktonmead
Flooding is possible for the Monktonmead at Ryde. Low lying land and roads will be affected first. Be prepared.
About 15mm of rainfall has fallen overnight. The river levels in the Monktonmead Brook are rising in response to this rainfall. The river levels around St John’s Station are continuing to rise slowly. It is likely that levels will continue to rise in response to the rainfall over the next few hours. The Pumping Station is operating correctly.
The Met Office forecast between 5 and 10mm of rainfall for the remainder of the day.
Update 2: Cowes
Flooding is possible for the coast around the Isle of Wight.
Water will be high up slipways through Cowes and minor flooding to coastal roads and car parks is also possible. No property flooding is expected
High tide expected at 11:17.
Update 3: Gurnard Luck
Flooding is possible for the Gurnard Luck, Gurnard. Low lying land and roads will be affected first. Be prepared.
Following 20mm of rain overnight, levels in the Gurnard Luck are rising. As a result of the high tide, expected at Cowes at 11:17hrs, the river level will continue to rise for the next 3 to 4 hours. This may cause garden flooding to property located next to the river.
