Folly Inn plans for new water taxi office and shoreside showers

The company behind a popular Island pub are proposing showers and a water taxi office on the banks of the River Medina.

As part of major refurbishment plans down Folly Lane,  Greene King is seeking planning permission for the facilities by the current Harbour Office, next door to its pub the Folly Inn in Whippingham.

Currently, the area is used for boat storage and provides access to a pontoon on the river, as well as an already functioning office.

Fit for purpose building to provide better quality facilities
The office, however, is said to be substandard by planning agents on behalf of Greene King, Walsingham Planning, and would be replaced with a new facility that will be fit for purpose and provide better quality facilities.

Two single-storey, prefabricated buildings are proposed within the existing boatyard and represent a visual improvement and enhancement to the area, say the planners.

The buildings will be inconspicuous, unobtrusive and blend into the landscape, they say.

Six shower and toilet cubicles will be provided — one of which will be accessible — for users of the riverside.

The public consultation closes on 16th May.

£1m investment
At the Folly Inn, Greene King has unveiled £1 million investment plans to bring the pub up-to-date and make the most of its riverside location.

The plans include adding bi-fold glass doors, an outdoor bar and a patio garden.
