There are plans to turn a former Roman Catholic Chapel in Niton into a Yoga Studio .
Paperwork for the application – which is now open to public consultation – reveals that the building hasn’t been used since 2009.
Thought to originally been constructed as a farm outbuilding, in the late 1960s is was purchased by the Roman Catholic Portsmouth diocese.
Improving the street scene
The applicant lives in the house abutting the former chapel and explains that the makeover of the building itself would enhance its appearance and improve its setting.
The front area, overlooking Rectory Road, would be maintained and ivy and overgrown vegetation removed, essentially resulting in the building becoming more visible and adding value within the street scene.
Parking
To address any concerns over parking, a detailed study was carried out of available spaces at the times classes would be held.
In addition, it’s stated that given the nature of the proposed change of use (Yoga Studio), visitors will tend to be of an environmental and health-conscious nature. Several of the students regularly share lifts, walk, run or cycle to class.
