Former Newport business unit poised for transformation into residential home

Plans have been submitted to Isle of Wight council planning department seeking Listed Building Consent for the conversion of a former business unit for residential use.

The application reveals plans to convert Suite 15 at Mill Court Business Centre in Newport to a single dwelling home over three floors.

The premises is part of the grade II listed building Pan Mill, one of the only a few surviving water mills on the Isle of Wight.

Minimising loss of historic fabric
There are no external changes proposed, ensuring minimal loss of historic fabric, but internal walls will be removed and new partition walls created to form the new residential dwelling.

Varefully designed to cause no significant harm
The Heritage Statement for the application explains the former business unit has failed to be let, but is isolated from other parts of the historic building.

It goes on to state:

The proposed scheme is carefully designed to cause no significant harm to the building’s special architectural or historic interest, and it is considered to be compliant with all relevant heritage policy and legislation.

The public benefit of bringing part of the listed building back into a viable use, thereby securing its sustainable future, is also a considerable public benefit.
