Around the world there is a movement of artists who ‘share the love’ by planting pieces of free artwork around their towns and cities for members of the general public to find and take home.
We know of one Island artist who regularly takes his work to London to do just that. Tony Trowbridge tells us that he gets a great buzz out of it and has brought home many an artwork he has found on his trips.
From this Friday, you won’t have to travel quite so far as Free Art Fridays launch on the Island.
Isle of Wight Free Art Fridays
It’s being organised by artist Tony Joyce, with only one rule.
If you are lucky enough to find a piece of free art (it will be marked with a “take me label” so people don’t loot the great public artworks of the Island) you are free to keep it, destroy it or replace it in a public place so others can find it.
Support for the project has been gathering pace with fine art photographer Lee Tonks, Encaustic artist Rohan Barton and veteran Free Art Fridays artist Corrine Bayraktaroglu already confirmed to contribute artworks.
So folks, if you have any luck this Friday finding pieces of artwork as part of Free Art Friday do let us know.
All sounds very exciting and positive!
