Police are continuing to make enquiries to trace a car after two road traffic collisions were narrowly avoided by motorists in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Officers were called to Coppins Bridge roundabout shortly after 2pm on Friday, April 8, 2011.
Bus driver avoided collision
A Southern Vectis bus was travelling in the Ryde lane of East Street towards Coppins Bridge when the driver braked to avoid colliding with a green Ford Fiesta. Seven bus passengers received minor injuries.
The Fiesta driver, a 52-year-old woman from Newport, Isle of Wight, had stopped to avoid a collision with a silver Ford Ka. The Fiesta driver was not injured.
Appeal for Ford Ka driver
Police are renewing an appeal for further information about the silver Ford Ka, which had been driven out of Pyle Street into the Cowes lane of East Street. The silver Ka had a partial registration index of LC54.
Investigating officer PC Keith Haywood of Newport Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “I would like to thank all the motorists, passengers and pedestrians who’ve helped us with enquiries so far. We’re appealing directly for the driver of the Ford Ka to come forward and speak with police about exactly what happened. Other witnesses would be appreciated to assist our investigation into establishing the full circumstances.
“Thankfully, no-one was injured seriously as the motorists affected took swift action to avoid two collisions. However, the result could have been far worse, particularly as traffic was heavy at one of the island’s busiest road junctions.”
