A fundraising event last week saw a whopping £7,770 raised ‘Daddy’s Little Girl Fund’, set up by Ian Gregory after he set up after suddenly and unexpectedly lost his 23-year-old son last month.
Ian told News OnTheWight,
“The fundraising evening at the Castle Inn was simply amazing, boosting our GoFundMe page by £7,770 bringing the total to £12,230.”
Lewis’s colleagues braved some serious waxing for sponsorship and Ian said there was no end of people paying extra to tear the odd strip off some of the staff and bosses.
He said,
“Lewis would have wet himself laughing and I made sure I got a few strips on his behalf.”
The raffle was held that evening and the pub was standing room only, it was so well supported by both The Castle Inn (Newport) and The Vine (St Helens).
Ian added,
“The locals are amazing and our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of them. This money really does give an excellent start to setting up the trust fund for Esme and we intend to add to it each year.”
If you missed our earlier article on this, Ian explains below the thinking behind the GoFundMe appeal,
“Lewis is unable to provide the future he wanted for his daughter Esme, so we have set up a GoFundMe page and the pubs have been taking donations to help create a Trust Fund for when Esme comes of age.”
Parachute jumps
There are plans afoot for fundraising around Lewis’s birthday in June 2022, parachute jumps!
Ian says there are around 12 people willing to jump out of a plane, including Lewis’s Mother, Brother and Ian himself.
