Garden flooding expected after high tide today

The Environment Agency have issued a Flood Alert for Gurnard Luck on the Isle of Wight.

The warning reads

The water level in the Gurnard Luck is high and rising. Overnight, 25mm of rain was recorded in Cowes.

Most of the rain fell in three hours, which is a large amount in a short period of time.

High tide at Cowes is expected at 11:00 this morning (05/10/21).

From 13:00, the water level could become high enough to cause garden flooding to properties located immediately next to the river in Marsh Road (Gurnard).

The weather will remain settled and dry over the next five days.

The river will rise until 14:00 this afternoon. It will then begin to drain with the lowering tide.

From 16:00 onwards, no further impacts are expected from the river. We continue to monitor the forecast, and will remove any reported blockages.

Until the level falls with the lowering tide, please keep away from the river at Gurnard Road Bridge. Water will be deep and fast flowing.
