It’s almost that time of year again when there is a very strong whiff of garlic in the air. Yes, it’s Garlic Festival time and this year there is a distinctively 70s feel to the event.
First up though, please be aware that if you want to take your pet dog, it will be allowed, so long as it is on a lead, well behaved (watch out for Bert) and cleared up after.
As far as musical entertainment goes, the main stage headliner on Saturday will be none other than Mungo Jerry. They’ve been going since the 1970s (and played at the 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival) with an ever-changing lineup, but Ray Dorset has been the main thread, keeping the music going over the years.
Let’s hope the sun is shining for their classic “In the Summertime” when they come on stage at 4pm.
Over the weekend you can also catch The Sharks, Derek Sandy, Little Noddy Holder, Evolotion
and Gareth Icke.
Save all your kisses for me on the Sunday, as winners of the Eurovision Song Contest 1976, Brotherhood of Man perform on stage. They’re all getting fairly close to picking up their bus passes, but that isn’t stopping them from continuing to perform. Check them out at 4pm.
Entertainment in the main arena includes displays from John Evans the strongman, RSPCA rescue dogs, IOW Road Traffic Safety Team, Amazon Falconry, Middle Eastern Dancers and the always popular Ryde Extreme team.
The second stage will play host to kids’ favourite David Randini, who’ll be putting on his classic Magic and Punch and Judy show. Dinosaur man, Martin Simpson will be educating whilst entertaining. Derek Sandy and Little Noddy Holder will be providing some music to sit back and sing along to.
It’ll cost you £7.50 to get in and that lasts for the two days. Kids (5-15) get in for £4.00
