The late Barry Cass, the legendary landlord of the Duke of York, Cowes, was fondly remembered at Cowes Lifeboat Station when a cheque for £5,420.17 was presented to the RNLI by his widow, Sally.
Following the death of her husband two years ago she is now the pub’ licensee.
Barry Cass Memorial Fundraiser party
The money was raised from a special Barry Cass Memorial Fundraiser party at the public house. Further donations were given directly to the RNLI – taking the actual total to over £6,000.
There was yet more good news for the life-saving charity – with Sally’s decision to make the fundraiser party an annual event.
Honours for Launch Authorities
Also at the cheque presentation were station members rewarded for their commitment and skill.
Two Launch Authorities, Harry Leslie and John Mason, received the RNLI’s prestigious Excellence in Volunteering Awards.
Harry for his first-class management skills, imparting his extensive maritime knowledge and supporting all volunteers; John for his skill in training all the newcomers to reach a high level.

The boat crews on three 2021 ‘shouts’ were recognised by the RNLI for their skills: Ady Stothard, Jack Banks, Andy Bond, Adam Wilson, Willoughby Matthews, Andy Stretton, Mat Randall and Jason Hughes.

First Aid courses: Jason Hughes, Jason Moore, James Findlay, Josh Matthews and Jimmy Ingram. Also officially thanked for her operational service was retired Launch Authority, Jane Reeve.
