With the holiday season looming, we’re sure that all residents who take pride in their town will want to make sure that their community is looking as good as it can be.
Cue The Big Tidy Up campaign
During the month of March the Isle of Wight Council and the Healthy Business Partnership have joined forces to encourage local businesses, community groups, youth organisations and town and parish councils to take part in a new national anti-litter campaign being organised by Encams (formerly Keep Britain Tidy).
Although the scheme is Islandwide, Rob Reed, our Environment and Neighbourhoods Officer is urging groups such as schools, scout/brownie groups, community groups or just a bunch of friends who use the same club or pub, to get involved individually or join local volunteers by going to see Lesley at The Ventnorian.
Litter Hotspots in Ventnor
Five hotspot areas have been identified in Ventnor, the first that is suffering particularly badly is around the Chip Shop in Lowtherville, up Steephill Down Road and the corner leading up around to Upper Ventnor (below the cemetery) and the grassed area of the Old Shute down the path to Ocean View Road.
Others include, all down the side of Ninestone steps – St Boniface Rd, Wheelers Bay steps and escarpment, Eastern cliffs upper and lower and St Albans steps lower.
