Gill Kennett Awarded MBE

Congratulations to the four Islanders who have been nominated awards in the Queens Birthday Honours.

They include Suzanne Whitewood (more to follow), Deborah Lavin, Captain Graham Hall and Gill Kennett.

Gill Kennett was nominated for an MBE for her service to Healthcare and the community of the Isle of Wight.

Shocked and embarassed
We chatted with the former Isle of Wight councillor this morning and she told us, “I was really shocked … and then a bit embarrassed.”

Asking why she was embarrassed, Gill said, “You see so many people doing different things, you’re surprised you’ve been picked.”

Gill received a letter six-seven weeks ago letting her know that she’d been nominated, but the list was only officially released at the weekend.

We asked how it had been since, “Colleagues at work have had mugs made saying Gill Kennett MBE.” A jolly jest.
