Many thanks to Suzanne Whitewood for news of this forthcoming celebration. Ed

After over a year of celebrations members of Girlguiding UK, including the Isle of Wight members, are looking forward to the finale of their Centenary- “Vision”.

Every member in the UK , all 500,000+ members, will renew their Promise at the very special time of 10 past eight in the evening of the 20th October 2010 or at 20.10 20.10.2010

Each Girlguiding District, Division, County and Region will join together in the celebration when all members, from the youngest 5 year old Rainbow to the oldest member of the Trefoil Guild (on the Island age 80+) will think of other Girlguiding members in this Movement started in 1909 by Lord Robert Baden Powell.

Changing lives
As life in the UK has changed over the 100 years, so has Girlguiding changed but it remains as relevant to today’s girls and young women as ever.

In today’s Guiding girls are: “in the lead” and the members of Girlguiding UK are taking the lead in a number of national issues with the most recent being “Body Image”.

At all three party political conferences girls and young women lobbied the UK’s MPs with their concerns on this issue and results of a national survey for all young women, not just Girlguiding members, have been brought together by a group of Girlguiding members.

On the Island the “Vision”- Looking forward to the next 100 years – will be celebrated by a get-together and performances, including song, dance and fun routines, by most of the Island’s 1200 members.

Special Promise badges will be presented to all those attending this very special event.
