Thanks to Charlotte for letting readers know about community workshops being held in Chale but open to all. In her own word. Ed
A grant from the ‘Skills Funding Agency’ with the support of the Isle of Wight Council Adult and Community Learning has been successfully awarded, so now there can be various courses, group activities and workshops provided in Chale over the coming year.
The aim is to help people develop new skills which could lead to further projects or business ideas in the Community, in line with the’ Eco Island ‘ vision of self sustainability.
Survey gathered ideas
The survey that was carried out on ‘Chale Day’ showed there was interest in Craft activities, Beginners ICT, Gardening, and Observational Walks, a number of activities have been planned, so now it’s down to you to book your place so they can go ahead!
There will be a nominal charge for the activities as the courses have been heavily subsidised. It’s a great opportunity to get out and try something new.

Computer training
We are also proposing to run some computer training sessions in Chale Green for those wanting to learn how to access the internet etc, also learning how to download and save your digital photos.
You will need to have your own laptop with wireless internet capability. If you would like to attend but don’t have your own computer please talk to Charlotte.
Nature walks
In the Spring and Summer months we will be doing Outdoor Observational Walks with the aim of gathering pictures drawings and written information to make a small ‘Ramblers Guide booklet’ about Chale.
We would like as many people as possible to get involved in this project to make it fun and interesting. There will also be some sessions on planting a container vegetable garden to show how easy it is for everyone to enjoy a few home grown vegetables however small a space they have!
This project is being co-ordinated by Charlotte Smith please call 0845 4561397 or e-mail [email protected] to book a place or register your interest.
