If you liked what you heard from Paul Armfield on Friday night at The Wild Oats charity gig (buy the single now), but have not seen The Gramophone Party play live before, then Quay Arts have a real treat for you next month.
They formed last year and have gone down a storm on the Island and internationally (judging by their MySpace – well worth checking out as there are a selection of tracks on there you can listen to if you don’t have the CD).
The Gramophone Party will be performing works by some of the greatest jazz and blues pioneers from the 78rpm era, as well as some original compositions.
So who’s in the band? Well, it’s fronted by Angelina Grimshaw whose deep velvety voice it’s unavoidable to sink into. Her brother, JC Grimshaw, is a multi-instrumentalist and is numbered amongst the top dozen vintage Hawaiian guitarist in the world!
Jack Tait (trumpet/trombone) would have been at home on any 1920’s stage. He has studied this chapter of music for 40 years and if time travel were possible you would be surprised not to bump into him on Bourbon Street!
Rupert Brown, an innovative, world class, creative drummer has played with great names such as Nigel Kennedy, Roy Ayres etc. etc.
Paul Armfield (double bass) is an international musician/poet/songwriter and JC’s other international touring partner – he brings both talent and charm to The Gramophone Party.
We heard that The Motion Pictures tour had to be cut short due to Rupert’s hearing problems, so we wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he is back on form by mid-December.
