Charities and community-led organisations are once again being invited to bid for grant support from Island Roads’ Isle of Wight Foundation.
Each year since 2014, the foundation – comprising the companies behind Island Roads – has awarded grants of between £3,000 and £16,000 to projects involved in helping build better communities or supporting people to access employment or housing.
This year, eight projects – Vectis Radio, Cowes Alzheimer’s Café, Yes! Creative Beats, Community Action IW, St Catherine’s School, Care in the Garden, People Matter and Aspire, Ryde – received a share of £85,000 from the foundation which for the next grant call is this year making an additional £10,000 available to support projects helping to tackle social exclusion on the Island.
Applications for this year’s money are being sought between 3rd February and 9th May. Any projects that meet the foundations criteria are encouraged from any group whether applying for the first time or having previously done so.
The companies making up the foundation are Ringway Island Roads, Island Roads Services, Vinci Concessions and Meridiam. The money is a charitable donation from each organisation and as part of their community initiatives and separate from the highways services delivered by Island Roads.
IW Foundation Chairman Rob Gillespie said,
“Since 2014 we have been able to support a wide variety of groups that together have delivered a real mix of projects to tackle social exclusion on the Island.
“Last year we received over 30 applications which shows there is a tremendous amount of excellent community work in this field.
“Once again, we would like to encourage community interest companies and not-for-profit organisations involved in bringing communities together or supporting people with training, to apply for the next round of funding from our foundation.”
