An Isle of Wight farm could be installing a wind turbine to cut energy costs and become more self-sufficient.
Knightsbridge Farm, on Whitwell Road, Godshill has put in a planning application for its new energy source.
18m tall wind turbine
The main tower of the G-11 wind turbine could stand 18m tall, with the blades reaching 24.8m to its tip.
Planning agents, Natural Energy, said the turbine will be ‘hardly’ visible from most public viewpoints nor become a horizon feature due to surrounding hedgerows and trees.
Uninterrupted wind flow
In planning documents, the agents say the chosen point on the farm is ‘very helpful’ for the successful working of a turbine as it is on the highest point and the wind flow is uninterrupted.
They say ‘due regard’ has been made to ensure the turbine does not negatively impact the enjoyment of the landscape by other nearby residents or visitors.
Surplus energy sent to the local grid
The turbine can generate electricity round-the-clock and should be capable of producing 25,000kWhrs per year.
