GRWN and Sydenhams Timber Engineering showcase sustainable housing innovation in Cornwall

Two Isle of Wight-based companies, Sydenhams Timber Engineering and GRWN Group, have successfully delivered innovative, eco-friendly homes to the Duchy of Cornwall’s Nansledan development in Cornwall.

The homes arrived last week, coinciding with a visit by the King and Prime Minister. Their visit, as reported by the BBC, underscored the importance of Nansledan’s commitment to sustainability, a mission that aligns with the eco-conscious efforts of Sydenhams and GRWN.

A sustainable housing solution
The houses were developed using the GRWNhome system, an advanced timber frame build system designed through collaboration between Sydenhams and GRWN.

This system incorporates GRWN’s industrial hemp-based building materials, offering residents high-performance, eco-friendly living without compromising on comfort or convenience.

Nick Joyce, Founder and CEO of GRWN Group, highlighted the importance of the project.

“Delivering these homes to such a prestigious development is a testament to the hard work and innovation of both Sydenhams and GRWN.

“GRWNhome represents the future of sustainable living—carbon negative, built to last, and designed for today’s housing needs.

“We’re proud to be leading the charge in reducing the housing sector’s carbon footprint.”

Innovation in timber engineering
Dean Orchard, Managing Director of Sydenhams Timber Engineering, emphasised the significance of their collaboration.

“We’re thrilled to see our collaborative efforts come to life at Nansledan.

“The GRWNhome system demonstrates the potential of combining innovative, sustainable timber structures with natural materials like hemp.

“This project shows what can be achieved when two Isle of Wight companies come together with a shared vision for the future of housing.”

Carbon-negative homes for the future
GRWNhome has been designed with sustainability in mind, ensuring its environmental benefits extend from production through its entire lifecycle.

With its carbon-negative materials, the system is setting a new standard for eco-conscious housing and helping the construction industry move towards net-zero targets.

The Duchy of Cornwall’s Nansledan development is renowned for its dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility, making it an ideal setting to showcase the potential of the GRWNhome system.

Well done to GRWN and Sydenhams!
