Goodbye Stereo (GS) are showcasing nights with good bands from the Island and the mainland, so on Thursday night, I made my way down to the Wightrock Bar in anticipation of a great night.
This is the second or third showcase (a debate which is on-going) GS has presented and it was a cracker! If there was a theme, it was electronic and keys.
First up was Golden Strands; A rock/pop band, A worthy band to open the night and a finalist from Live/Wired. Golden Strands performed their set perfectly, with great melodies and a soul-full end to their set.
The crowd appreciated Golden Strands who set the scene perfectly.
Second up was Paper Romance (pictured); A electronica/ funk/club band. Although they’ve only been together for a few months, they are performing extremely well, with some nice melodic funk sounds. CD’s were on sale from Paper Romance and being so good, I bought two. I’m sure this band will be snapped up soon.
Third up was Arcade Eden, an electro/pop/alternative band and a band which needs no introduction. They’re well polished, with a great sound and Clare performing her foxy stage act is always welcome. There sets always has a alternative edge to it which has audiences well up for it.
Last but not least was London based electro/pop band Empress (pictured). We all eagerly awaited for Empress to begin their set. From the very start, they showed why they are doing so well. Every song had a great melodic sound. Empress are known for their melodic, electro hooks and catchy choruses. They delivered all and more during this hot evening and packed Wightrock bar.
Other events coming up
GS are involved with Billy for another event on the Island, MUNCH FEST, this will be one of the best small events for not a lot of money, so if you want value and good bands; lots of good bands from Southampton, Brighton and the best of the Island, then check it out
I’m already looking forward to GS next Thursday night.
