They are busy rehearsing for their next concert which will be held at the Medina Theatre at the end of the month.
This will be an excellent opportunity to wipe away the post Christmas blues, and the orchestra has chosen a melodious an exciting programme for this event.
The Orchestra are pleased to welcome back David Grubb as their guest conductor for this concert. David last conducted the orchestra two years ago, and has kept busy working with many mainland orchestras as well as examining for the Associated Board.
Tragic Overture by Brahms
The concert will open with the well known Tragic Overture by Brahms. This concert overture is full of beautiful melodies as you would expect with the music of Brahms.
Following the overture the orchestra will be joined by the oboist Maxwell Spiers (pictured) for a performance of the Oboe Concerto by Joseph Horovitz (perhaps better known for his children’s cantata Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo).
The Concerto was originally commissioned in 1993 for the Isle of Wight Oboe Competition, so it is not only a welcome return for the guest conductor, but also the concerto!
After the interval, the concert will conclude with a performance of the Symphony No.2 by Schumann. This masterful composition is a very popular piece with both players and audience.
