Thanks to Hannah for sharing news from St Catherine’s school, Hopefully readers might be able to help. Ed
The school in Ventnor which supports young people with speech, language and communication needs has a small gym on site to support students with a range of occupational therapy issues. However, new equipment is needed to maximise the benefits to students.
Gym will be well used
Occupational Therapy Assistant, and trainee fitness instructor, Lisa Hewison said “The majority of our 54 students receive Occupational Therapy to support their physical needs. Our gym would be able to be used by our students for relaxation sessions as well as developing core strength, co-ordination and stamina, which so many of our young people have difficulties with.”
A St Catherine’s student added “Having our own gym is good to keep us fit, and sometimes it’s difficult to go out to other gyms.”
Donations appreciated
In light of this, the students would like to ask Islanders for kind donations of gym equipment.
They are particularly interested in acquiring a cross trainer, exercise bike and rowing machine; however any equipment that could be spared would be so gratefully received and would make a significant difference to the development of the young people at St Catherine’s.
If you are able to support St Catherine’s by donating any items please contact Hannah Davison on 01983 852722 or [email protected].
