As well as the Right to Wreck Covenant over the Hazelhurst property in Freshwater that has recently been given permission to be demolished and be replaced with nine flats, there is another covenant that was unearthed last week.
Apparently, the latest covenant, which came into force when the plot when sold and appears to still be valid today says that “only one family dwelling can be placed on the plot.”
Given that the plans are for nine flats, it’s pretty unlikely that nine+ members of the same family will be moving in and it’s certainly not the impression we get from the agent’s design statement.
It’ll be interesting to see how the planners and developers deal with this one.
Philanthropists?
Reading a letter by Mr John White from Totland on page 14 of the CP today, we were initially confused as to whether he is being serious or taking the mickey, when he states that “Mr Knight (one of the owners of Hazelhurst) should be suitably rewarded for his philanthropy.”
He writes that the nine flats will enable the rehousing of nine needy families, into comfortable inexpensive apartments.
Considering the design statement is for ‘Nine Luxury Apartments’, we think he may well be jesting. Especially as the document goes on to state that Freshwater is not a suitable location for affordable, low budget or economy housing.
If you’ve got a spare few hours, you can wade through all the plans, which are still available online.
