Thanks to Tanja for an update on what’s been happening at Frank James. Ed
This coming Sunday (9th August) is the last day of The Big Butterfly Countand people are welcome to come to the grounds of Frank James from 1:30pm to count our winged friends!
The only advantage of having the building stand derelict is that it has been allowed to become a haven for wildlife as well as an established orchard (adopted by the Isle of Wight Orchard Society) where butterflies of all kinds can be spotted.
Planning permission granted
The Friends of Frank James very much hope that this wildlife value will be preserved once the building is taken back into use. The latter looks more and more likely now that a second Planning Permission has been granted.
Moreover, enthusiastic outsiders have shown interest in buying the building in order to make it flourish again. Watch this space!
Next gathering
Saturday 22nd of August 1:30 to 4pm sees our next official Gathering on the grounds where we will continue our work to keep the building itself free from vegetation.
It is also TTIP Day and people are welcome to come and find out more about this secretive trade deal currently being negotiated between the EU and the US, which – if implemented – will greatly affect our Public Services, Food Sovereignty, environmental and animal welfare standards.
Material will be at hand for those who would like to know more and for those who would like to help persuade the IOW Council to adopt an anti-TTIP Motion.
