Heatwave tests runners from Ryde Harriers

Thanks to Tom for this report fro the Ryde Harriers running club. Ed

The recent heatwave has been a test for runners during Ryde Harriers continuing summer series.

Over in Sandown, the most recent track race saw a hardy collection of runners pushing themselves in top temperatures for the always testing 10k. 25 laps of the track requires strength of mind and searches a runner’s character so often see a smaller field than other events. First home on the night was Tom Blackwell followed in by Les Cupis. First women home were Grace Crumplin and Sarah Kavanagh who crossed together for joint third place overall.

The week previously, Sandown runners had attacked the infamous Sea Mark Seven, once again in hot conditions. Sarah Kavanagh took the nomination points whilst Les Cupis crossed the line first.

On home turf
Back in Ryde, runners took on a more familiar 10k road course with nomination points shared between Karen Collett and Bridget Lewis who were both only 4 second away from their stated time. The previous week and it was a multi-terrain run of 6.4 miles with Elaine Parry taking first place for her nomination time and Graham Maitland finishing first.

Next meet
This weekend it is the annual Brading 10k race starting at Smallbrook Stadium on Sunday 29th June at 11am.

Entries will be accepted on the day with more details on Ryde Harriers website.
