More heavy rain and risk of flooding for Islanders (updated)

The weather warning issued for the Isle of Wight is valid from 9pm tonight (Monday) until 23.45 on Tuesday.

It reads,

Frequent showers, some heavy, will bring a further 10-15 mm and locally up to 25 mm rain to parts of southern England later on Monday and into Tuesday. There is the risk of up to 40 mm of rain on the high ground of southwest England.

The public should be aware of the potential for disruption due to localised flooding, especially where the ground is already saturated.

Flood alerts
The Environment Agency also issued ‘Flood Warning’ for Langbridge and Alverstone on the Eastern Yar yesterday with an update expected any time son.

Flooding was expected to affect up to four properties in the area.

With the heavy rain predicted for later tonight/tomorrow. It’s possible the flood warning may remain in place.

Wednesday
Another warning for heavy rain, now extended to Wednesday valid from 00.15 to 21.00 on Wed 29 Jan 2014

Further rain at times on Wednesday may be locally persistent. The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding, especially in areas where there are ongoing concerns.

Friday
Another warning now issues, valid from 08.00 to 03.00 on Sat 1 Feb 2014

A further area of heavy rain will spread eastwards across the UK on Friday, clearing the southeast of England during the early hours of Saturday. 20-30 mm of rain will fall quite widely, with around 40 mm on some high ground in the southwest of England and south Wales. The heavy rain will be accompanied by strong to gale force winds.

The public should be aware of possible disruption, primarily due to further flooding, chiefly in areas already, or recently, affected.
