From 10th November to 2nd December, Red Funnel’s Red Jet 6 will undergo her annual refit. This maintenance is part of the company’s commitment to ensuring the long-term reliability of its Hi-Speed service.
During this period, the Hi-Speed service will run on a revised timetable to accommodate the work being carried out.
Essential works to improve service reliability
The scheduled maintenance includes several key tasks. Red Funnel’s team will focus on overhauling the vessel’s dual generators and jet propulsion system, as well as servicing the hydraulic systems. The main engine will also receive attention, alongside hull inspections and thickness testing.
Additionally, safety systems, such as firefighting equipment and life rafts, will undergo routine servicing.
Carpet renewal and certification surveys
As part of the refit, passengers can expect new carpets in the cabin, ensuring a refreshed interior once the vessel returns to service. The annual surveys by DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) are also scheduled to be completed during this time.
Red Funnel has reassured customers that contingency plans are in place should Red Jet 7 experience any disruptions while covering for Red Jet 6.
Red Jet 7 refit planned for early 2025
Looking ahead, Red Jet 7’s annual refit is already planned to begin at the end of January 2025. During this period, the Hi-Speed service will again operate on a revised timetable.
Red Funnel has apologised for any inconvenience and emphasised that the timing of the works has been chosen to minimise disruption during periods of lower demand.
